Sri Lanka National Cricketers Offer More Support to Tackle COVID-1

Sri Lanka National Cricket Team continued its support to tackle the COVID – 19 pandemic, making a donation to the Homagama Base Hospital on the 29th of March for the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The national team led by Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne made this donation following a request made by the Hospital, which is operated as a treatment Center for COVID-19 suspected patients. The donation was handed over to Dr. Janitha Hettiarachchi, Medical Superintendent of the Homagama Base Hospital by Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne.
According to the hospital, the Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE) will be used by the health staff, directly in contact with the suspected COVID– 19 patients.
“It is our duty as sports personalities to come forward at this moment of time to help the country, which needs contribution from every corner to fight out this deadly virus,” Karunaratne said.
Sri Lanka Cricket Grants LKR 25 Million to Fight Covid-19
Earlier, the players donated money to buy Video Laryngoscopes which will be helpful in treating patients who are infected with the virus. Sri Lanka Cricket too joined the cause by donating Rs 25 million.
The members of the national cricket team donated generously to buy equipment needed for General Hospital to treat Covid-19 patients. Former great cricket legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene teamed up to give away dry rations and other essentials while World Cup winners Roshan Mahanama and Chaminda Vaas teamed up with a group of doctors in distributing dry rations.
Fast bowler Suranga Lakmal visited Dambulla area to give away dry rations to those in need.
Another fast bowler Dhammika Prasad has been actively involved in Gampaha and Colombo districts. Last week, he distributed dry rations for one week among 1000 families and this week he has widened the network by targetting 2000 families.

Sri Lankan cricketers tagged along with former legends were also vocal on social media on how the government should handle the situation in this time of crisis, as well as how the public should respond to the pandemic without panicking.
